Glenmorangie 18 YO

Single Malt Whisky
43% Alcohol content

Glenmorangie's water source is the Tarlogie Springs, situated in the Tarlogie Hills above the distillery. Barley grain is supplied by Highland Grain Ltd, a cooperative of farmers in the area. The stills used, the tallest in Scotland at 26 feet tall, with 10 feet necks, are claimed by the company to produce an extremely light taste.

House style: Creamy, leafy.

Tasting Notes

Taster: Paul Pacult

Nose: Honey, flowers (heather? jasmine?) and light toffee. Later, reveals strokes of pine needles, caramel, nougat, marzipan, chocolate orange, and stewed apple; an amazing romp through the mystical land of barley malt and wood aroma.

Palate: First, dry as bone then, to my delight, it runs bittersweet and pork rind-like. Mid-palate: burnt apple crisp, orange zest, fudge and candied nuts.

Finish: As grandly and stately as it began.

Comment: Continues to be one of the most luscious, satisfying and complex 18 years old malts in the market.
