Glenlivet 12 YO

Single Malt Whisky
40% Alcohol content

The Glenlivet was founded in 1824 and it has operated almost continuously since. The distillery draws water from Josie's Well and other springs a short distance from the distillery. The barley comes from Crisp Maltings, Portgordon. Lastly, Glenlivet's stills are lantern shaped with long, narrow necks, all of which helps to produce a light tasting spirit. Spirit from the distillery is then matured in oak casks formerly used to mature bourbon (ex-bourbon), as is normal throughout the industry, with some products being finished in casks previously used to store sherry and port.

House Style: Flowery, fruity, peachy.

Tasting Notes

Taster: Rob Allanson

Nose: Reminiscent of 35mm film canisters. Very intense and with the classic Speyside notes of honey, sharp fruits and almost peaches.

Palate: Sweetness is at the fore here. A little oak comes through as does the peach quality. Also delicate vanilla.

Finish: Gently warming and pleasing.

Comment: The classic Speyside still holds its own and is as entertaining a dram as ever.
