Glenfarclas 21 YO

Single Malt Whisky
43% Alcohol content

The distillery has six stills which are the largest on Speyside and are heated directly by gas burners. Glenfarclas produce a traditional Speyside malt with a heavy sherry influence. The distillery was first granted a license in 1836 when it was run by Robert Hay. In 1865 it was bought by John Grant and is still owned and run by his descendants, making it truly independent. The company was named Distiller of the Year by Whisky Magazine in 2006.

House Style: Big, complex, malty, sherryish.

Tasting Notes

Taster: Michael Jackson

Nose: Sherryish, nutty aromas predominate. Then malt (slightly buttery), and peat. Each seems to manifest itself as a separate hit.

Palate: Lively expression of classic Speyside flavours: sherry, malt and slight smokiness.

Finish: Lightly peaty. Appetizing.

Comment: A straightforward Speyside classic. Also big enough to benefit from considerable age.
