Ardbeg Distillery is on the south coast of the isle of Islay, Argyll and Bute, Scotland, in the Inner Hebrides group of islands. The distillery claims to produce the peatiest Islay whisky and uses malted barley sourced from the maltings in Port Ellen. It is one of the fastest growing Islay distilleries. Ardbeg whisky is considered to be amongst the peatiest in the world, and certainly the core expression, Ardbeg 10 Year Old, is the peatiest standard expression from any whisky distillery with phenol content of 24ppm.


House Style: earthy, very peaty, smoky, salty and robust.


From a recently released Ardbeg range showcasing the affects of maturation on 1998-distilled whisky. Starting from Very Young through Still Young and Almost There, Renaissance is the conclusion with the motto 'We've arrived' gracing the bottle of this 10 year old.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Big and medicinal, with an iodine-like quality and a full richness with gentle citric notes.


Palate: Sharp and smoky, there is a lanolin coating and a big, potent peat exuding exceptional balance.


Finish: Long with good character, a bitter edge creeps in with a nuttiness and moist cocoa.
