Ardbeg 10 YO

Single Malt Whisky
46% Alcohol content

Ardbeg Distillery is on the south coast of the isle of Islay, Argyll and Bute, Scotland, in the Inner Hebrides group of islands. The distillery claims to produce the peatiest Islay whisky and uses malted barley sourced from the maltings in Port Ellen. It is one of the fastest growing Islay distilleries. Ardbeg whisky is considered to be amongst the peatiest in the world, and certainly the core expression, Ardbeg 10 Year Old, is the peatiest standard expression from any whisky distillery with phenol content of 24ppm.

House Style: earthy, very peaty, smoky, salty and robust.

Tasting Notes

Taster: Dave Broom

Nose: Astoundingly smoky, yet delicate with subtle tarry notes behind. With water the smoke dies a little and raisin and caramelized apple notes emerge.

Palate: An immediate waft of peat smoke. Full, robustly flavoured with turf and lapsang souchong tea.

Finish: Salty, long and filled with fragrant peat reek.

Comment: A punch in the chops from a stroppy Islay middleweight. Flavour-packed yet delicate.
