Yamazaki Puncheon

Japanese Whisky
48% Alcohol content

Yamazaki is the first Japanese distillery established 1923. The distillery is situated in the vale of Yamazaki, an area of dense bamboo grooves at the foot of Mt. Tennozan outside Kyoto, Japan’s ancient capital and stronghold of traditional Japanese culture.

A more recent addition to the Yamazaki line, Puncheon is bottled at the higher strength of 48%, and it was matured in a large 480 litre puncheon cask, which affords the whisky slower maturation than the normal 230 litre Hogshead cask.

Tasting Notes

Juicy fruits on the nose with a citrus kick, plus a few dried fruits thrown in as well. The palate develops stronger notes of vanilla with higher notes of summer fruit salad and a little spice at the back. The finish is reminiscent of limes and grapefruit with a little vanilla essence.
